Arrangements are in place for the conduct of the Fifth Victory Day commemoration in the Matara City.
The Commemoration Parade will be held in the Matara Coast.
The 2014 Victory Day Parade will be conducted in the coastal belt centering the Matara City under the patronage of President Rajapaksa on Sunday the 18th. Chiefs of the Armed Forces, the Inspector General of Police and local as well as foreign state representatives are slated to join in the commemoration. Many members of the Security Forces and the Police will join the parade in addition to a large number of war tanks, military hardware and vehicles.
The Government says a special Traffic Plan will be in operation from today. It is effective from 5.00 am. Heavy vehicles arriving from Colombo along Galle Road and moving towards Tangalla via the Matara City should turn from the Weligama town and enter the Hakmana town and ply towards Tangalla or Dickwella.
All heavy vehicles plying towards Colombo from Kataragama and Tangalla along the Galle Road should use the same route towards Colombo.
Light vehicles and passenger transport buses should travel towards the Walgama Junction in the Matara Police Division and reach the Kekenadura Junction along the Welegoda Road and ply towards Tangalla and Kataragama through the Ratmale Road.
SSP Matara T.M.W.D. Tennekoon said that the main bus stand on the Matara Coastal belt will be relocated temporarily tomorrow and the day after only at the Izadeen town along the Matara-Akuressa Road.
