Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has said that although a handful of Local Council budgets has been defeated it is not a political defeat for the Government.
Minister Keheliya Rambukwella made a clarification in this respect at today’s Cabinet news briefing.
The Minister said that the media had reported that budgets of all Local Authorities had been defeated. There are about 200 odd Local Councils and the budgets of only about three percent had suffered defeats. There are only eight such Councils still in the lurch while the others had been approved in the second round of voting. About 200 local bodies out of 225 are administered by the Government. He revealed that an inquiry is already in place. The Party General Secretary and a Committee are looking into the issues and grievances of these bodies.
