The residents who will be removed from the illegal constructions in Applewatta area in Maligawatta will be provided flats complete with modern facilities.
The Urban Development Ministry has informed the Supreme Court that measures will be taken in this connection when a fundamental rights petition filed by a group of residents came up for hearing. It has been decided to demolish 574 houses in the Applewatta area. The officials of the Urban Development Authority informed the court that the rent will be paid to them until the flats are provided. After considering the submissions the Supreme Court postponed the case until the 23rd of January when a final decision will be announced.
