The Beruwala Police have arrested a group of 75, who attempted to illegally sail to New Zealand.
These illegal migrants who had come in a vehicle to illegally migrate to New Zealand were arrested this morning while they were proceeding to another location. They were apprehended based on a tip off received by the Beruwala OIC Duminda Rajapaksa. These 75 persons had come to Beruwala from Batticaloa. They included 60 males, nine females and six children. During interrogations, they revealed that human smugglers had secured money from them to send them to New Zealand via the sea route.
The Police Media Spokesman said that investigations are proceeding for the identification and arrest of these human smugglers.
