Development will continue confronting challenges – President

President Rajapaksa has emphasized that development in the country will continue while successfully confronting the challenges in the process of fulfilling the responsibilities on behalf of the country and the nation.


The President was addressing a function held at the Pathiraja Maha Pirivena in Agalawatte in Matugama. It was organized to fete the Ven. Pimbure Sri Uditha Thera who has been appointed as the Mahanayake of the Sri Kalyani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha of the Maha Vihare Wnshika Shyamopali Maha Nikaya.


Speaking further the President recalled that the members of the Maha Sangha took the lead on every occasion when the country and the nation faced challenges and never hesitated to fulfil their responsibilities. The President underscored that development will be continuously carried out on behalf of the country confronting the challenges.


The President said that the country is now facing challenges. There are many threats and challenges from external forces, at a time when an environment has been created for all communities to live in peace and freedom after routing terrorism which was a scourge for the country for 30 years. Sri Lanka has to go to Geneva once in every six months. This is an era in which the country was making responses when much of the work had to be fulfilled within. While facing such challenges, he asserted that measures were being taken to develop every part of the island.


The President also handed over mementoes to the Mahanayake Thera. The Ven. Pimbure Abhinandane Sathyanjali Shasthriya Sangrahaya was presented to President. Members of the Maha Sangha including the Anunayake of the Malwatte Chapter the Ven. Niyangod Vijithasiri Thera and Chancellor of the Sri Jayawardenapura University the Ven. Prof. Bellanwila Wimalarthana Thera were present. Ministers Mahinda Samarasinghe and Kumara Welgama and Project Ministers Nirmala Kotalawala and Rohitha Abeygunawardena were among the others present.
