3,334,829 have visited Deyata Kirula

The number of visitors to the Deyata Kirula Exhibition has exceeded 3.3 million.

Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya revealed these statistics during a media conference held on the progress of the Deyata Kirula Exhibition in Ruwanwella.

The Minister said that the 2014 Deyata Kirula Exhibition drew to a close last night. The total number of visitors to the Exhibition during the nine-day period had been 3,334,829. The Statistics were compiled by the Department of Statistics. Accordingly one sixth of the population had come to Kuliyapitiya to view the Exhibition. This clearly displays that trust placed by the people in the Mahinda Chinthana.

The Eighth Deyata Kirula National Development Exhibition under the theme “Awakening of the Sri Lankan People” and which displayed Sri Lanka’s journey towards becoming the “Wonder of Asia” was declared open by President Rajapaksa on the 21st of last month. Although the Deyata Kirula National Development Exhibition was scheduled to be held in Kuliyapitiya for seven days, the Deyata Kirula Committee decided to extend the Exhibition by another two days at the special request of many visitors.

The President also joined the massive crowds who thronged Kuliyapitiya to view the Exhibition symbolizing the freedom and unity prevailing in the country.

The Deyata Kirula Exhibition educated the people of the Government’s development plans that are being implemented according to the Mahinda Chinthana. It comprised nearly 500 stalls which were put up by both the public and private sector establishments. In addition the Exhibition included many features such as cultural pageants and musical shows. The Ninth Deyata Kirula National Development Exhibition will is scheduled to be held centering Galle, Hambantota and Matara.
