The number of people who suffered due to atrocities committed by savage terrorists throughout thirty years is countless. They not only took away many lives but also devastated public property. The main intention of the barbaric terrorists was to destabilize the country and the economy.
Today’s feature also relates the atrocities committed by the terrorists during the fear psychosis period.
On 11th March 1988, the terrorists sneaked into the Suhadagama village in Horowpathana with the intention of carrying out murders. They quenched their thirst for blood after storming into the village by killing 19 civilians including small children. On 11th March 1992, the brutal tiger terrorists lurking in the Vettilaikerni area in Jaffna mooted an attack on the war heroes taking the valuable lives of nine of them. Wellawali was the next target of the terrorists. They unleashed a powerful assault on 11th March 1996 killing 24 war heroes.
Four more war heroes lost their lives in two terrorist attacks mooted in the Kanagarayankulam and Trincomalee areas on 11th March 1998. In the year 2007 also on a day like today, the terrorists exploded a bomb in the Kartivu area taking away the lives of two gallant soldiers.
On 11th March 2009, these ruthless tiger terrorists mooted several attacks at Puthukudiyiruppu, Sirikulam and Puthukudiyiruppu West locations. As a result of these assaults, 11 war heroes made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the country.
Terrorism which was plaguing the country in this manner was brought to an end from the Nanthikadal Lagoon. 18th May 2009 was that historic day. By then the terrorists had taken away 82 lives on 11th March throughout the dark era. This figure included 20 innocent civilians. The other 62 were war heroes.
The members of the Security Forces who advanced in the humanitarian operations enthroned sustainable peace in the country due to farsighted direct decision taken by President Rajapaksa and the proper guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. They did so making supreme sacrifices and with dedication.
The valiant soldiers engaged in these operations totally adhering to the Geneva Conventions while safeguarding the lives of innocent civilians and protecting their lives. But the United States and Britain are attempting to preferred human rights allegation to such a group of war heroes not simply because they do not understand the nature of protecting human rights but because of their malicious deceitfulness.
Many are astonished as to why none is talking about the flagrant human rights violations committed by these powerful countries, despite being revealed by the world mass media. The patriotic citizens who love the country are not prepared to betray the freedom won through many dedications. They would also not hesitate to safeguard their motherland in the face of so-called forces which are against the country. They had already proved this to the world on several occasions.
