This morning (Feb 24) 2 persons clad in helmets have entered a bank in Kohuwala and after threatening the people inside the bank by showing weapons in their possession had pulled out the drawers at the counter and removed Rs. 15 lakhs of money. In addition they
had taken away Rs. 55,000 which was in the hands of a customer who was thereat that time in the bank.
The private bank so robbed is Nations Trust Bank which stood in close proximity to Balapokuna junction between Pamankada and Kohuwala. After the robbery the robbers had fled in a motor cycle bearing No. HT 8725 towards Piliyandala, it is reported.
By now 3 police teams have been appointed to carry out investigations in this connection while CCTV tapes have been released to the media.
It is understood that branches of this bank has been subjected to robbery on two previous occasions.
