The President pays his last respects to the mother of Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena.
The President visited the Makandura residence in Matara where the remains of Somalaltha Hettiarachchi, the mother of Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena were placed, and paid his final respects. Somalatha Hettiarachchi who is the mother of four children including Minister Abeywardena was 86 years at the time of her death.
In the meantime, Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne also paid his last respects to Mrs. Hettiarachchi.
The funeral took place at the Danni Hiththetiya grounds at Makandura this afternoon.
