The country which was tormented by the ruthless terrorists for three decades was saved as a result of the many sacrifices made by the Commander in Chief and the heroic soldiers. If not the country would have transformed into a stream of blood.

This is another episode of the atrocities committed by the ferocious terrorists during the dark era.

It was on the 01st of April 1992 that the tiger terrorists embarked on their killing spree on this day throughout the dark era by murdering two war heroes in the Siththandi area with the aim of quenching their thirst for blood and also taking away more lives during this period. On 01st April 1998, two more war heroes lost their lives in another terrorist attack in Kilinochchi. Muttur was the next target of the terrorists.

As a result of an attack mooted on 01st April 1999, they killed two more brave soldiers. The war heroes were subject to a powerful assault of the terrorists in the Palai area in Jaffna on 01st April 2000. 25 war heroes made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the unity of the motherland in this attack.

Again in the year 2007 also on a day like today, the tiger terrorists took away the lives of six innocent civilians slaughtering them and also shocking the entire area while portraying their brutality to the world. On 01st April 2008, two war heroes sacrificed their lives in a terrorist attack in the Puliyankulam area. Several attacks were unleashed by the terrorists targeting the war heroes in the Puthukudiyiruppu and the surrounding areas. The attacks were mooted on 01st April 2009. Finally 17 gallant soldiers made sacrificed their lives on behalf of the motherland.

Terrorism which was a scourge for the country was finally uprooted at the Nanthikadal Lagoon on 18th May 2009. When this historic day was written in golden letters, the merciless terrorists had taken away a total of 68 lives on 01st April throughout the fear psychosis period. Among them were eight civilians. The other 60 were valiant soldiers.

The members of the Security Forces who advanced in the humanitarian operations under the prudent leadership of President Rajapaksa, the Commander in Chief and the appropriate guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa succeeded in enthroning genuine peace in the country. Aren’t they the real war heroes? Weren’t their operations destined at protecting the nation and the motherland making supreme sacrifices? What is the moral right powers such as Britain and the United States which are grossly violating human rights, have to make baseless and unfounded allegations that the Sri Lankan Security Forces transgressed fundamental right?

These courageous members of the Security Forces did not flout human rights but provided a lesson to the entire world on the protection of fundamental rights. The heroism of the members of the Security Forces are recounted in this feature daily as they are eternal heroes.
