The Commander in Chief and heroic soldiers risked their lives to eradicate brutal terrorism from the motherland which prevailed for nearly 30 years. As a result of numerous sacrifices they made, it was possible to achieve permanent peace in the country. More blood baths would have occurred in the country, if they were not successful in ending terrorism. 10 heroic sailors sacrificed their lives for the motherland when LTTE terrorists attacked a naval craft at Point Pedro on 4th May 1991. LTTE terrorists ambushed and killed 2 soldiers at Thopur, Trincomalee on 4th May 1996. Two innocent civilians were shot dead in their own farms by terrorists on 4th May 2007 in Jaffna. 19 heroic soldiers sacrificed their lives to the motherland when LTTE terrorists launched an attack at Wellamulliwaikkal on 4th May 2009. On the same day 4 heroic sailors lost their lives due to an attack by LTTE terrorists on a naval craft in Mullaitivu. This brutal acts of LTTE terrorism was eradicated from the motherland at the Nandikadaal lagoon on the 18th of May 2009. By that day 36 people, including 34 soldiers and 2 civilians had been killed by the LTTE terrorists on 4th May. The heroic soldiers achieved peace for the country under the brave leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the precise directions of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. Many soldiers sacrificed their lives and limbs to achieve peace for the motherland. The leader who taught a lesson to the world by eradicating terrorism, is now teaching the international community how to look after the disabled soldiers who made numerous sacrifices. Although certain local and foreign conspirators pretend not to see the heroism of these soldiers, the whole country loves them for achieving peace for the country. The Dark Memories have recorded the memories of those heroic soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the motherland. The photographs will rekindle those memories.
