The entire country glitters with the commemoration of Wesak,
the triple noble events of the Lord Buddha’s life. Wesak programmes are being organized countrywide giving pride of place to religious observances.
The Wellassa Wesak Zone, a concept of the Chief Minister of the Uva Province Shashindra Rajapaksa is being organized in the Bibila, Moneragala, Buttala and Medagama areas for seven days. It is being organized by the Uva Provincial Council and the Shashindra Rajapaksa Foundation.
The Wesak Zone organized under the patronage of the Security Forces Headquarters in Jaffna is being held centering the Jaffna Library premises and the Doraiappa Stadium. The Wesak Zone which will be in operation until the day after tomorrow displays many creations. The Jaffna Security Forces Headquarters said that Dansalas and Bakthi Gee recitals are among the highlights. It is being organized under the guidance of the Security Forces Commander of the Jaffna District Major General Udaya Perera. A rice Dansala in which about 700 persons could patronize at a time was held last night. A notable feature was the recital of Bakthi Gee in Sinhala as well as in Tamil Languages.
A keen enthusiasm was displayed by the people of the Batticaloa District to commemorate Wesak. A highlight was the participation of all communities in the Wesak commemorations. Contributions were made by Buddhist temples, the Security Forces, schools and private establishments. A massive Pandal which depicts the Chullapaduma Jathaka Story is on display. The Wesak Lantern display was organized under the guidance of the Eastern Provinces DIG Nandana Munasinghe. The display of Wesak lanterns and the conduct of Dansalas were witnessed at the Special Task Forces, Sri Lanka Air Force, the Sri Lanka Navy and Army Camps.
A Wesak Zone was organized for the first time centering the Nidahas Mawatha in Kegalla. Its opening took place under the auspices of the Chief Minister of the Sabaragamuwa Province Mahipala Herath. Parliamentarian Kanaka Herath was present.
Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya opened a Dansala serving hoppers. It was organized by the Vanduradeniya Youth Society within the Galigamuwa electorate. The Minister also opened the Noodles Dansala organized by the Muslim Traders of Mawanella.
The Central Hills also glittered with Wesak illuminations. The support of those who profess other faiths was received. Wesak Lanterns, colourful Pandals as well as Dansalas were some of the highlights.
Wesak was also commemorated on a grand scale in the Hatton area. Many giant Wesak lanterns were on display. Dansalas were also organized at several locations.
Dansalas were organized with the support of state as well as private organizations within the Amapra town and the suburbs to commemorate Wesak.
