Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has that itis the right of every citizen to register as a voter. He requested the public to consult the related sectors if they do not receive the registration forms by the 21st of this month. The Elections Chief said that they commenced the distribution of application forms on the 16th of this month. The collection of these forms will begin on the 02nd of next month. He appealed to the public to make inquiries from the Grama Niladhari, or the District Elections Office, if they do not receive a form by the 21st of next month. The Elections Chief was addressing a news conference at the auditorium of the Elections Secretariat in Rajagiriya. Mahinda Deshapriya announced of plans being made to launch a special programme to appraise the importance of registration in the voters’ list via school children with the mediation of the Ministry of Education in parallel to the National Voters’ Day which falls on the first of next month. Mr. Deshapriya said that special programmes are being launched with respect to taking a count on voters. He said they planned to hold a lecture for Government officials. Also after the 15th of next month they expect to dispatch a paper through every child to every house querying whether a voter’s form was received and if not to make queries from the Elections Office and also if a form had been receive to duly fill it and hand it over without delay.
