President Rajapaksa has told the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon that an international
inquiry is not in keeping with the vision of the Sri Lankan people. He invited him to visit Sri Lanka again and view the real ground situation.
President Rajapaksa who is on an official visit to China met the UN Secretary General this afternoon on the sidelines of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia. The President briefed the UN Chief on the post war developments that have taken place in Sri Lanka since his visit to the island in 2009 and the progress achieved in a variety of different sectors. The President urged the UN Secretary General to make another visit to personally see the developments in the island.
The President also updated him on the progress of the LLRC pointing out that Sri Lanka has implemented about 30 percent of the recommendations so far. The President had also explained that addressing certain matters such as the land ownership will take time but that Sri Lanka remains committed to the LLRC process. The President emphasized that Sri Lanka continues to work with the United Nations system.
The UN Chief appreciated the President’s commitment to the democratic process. Pointing out that Sri Lanka has been making a great deal of progress, the UN Secretary General congratulated Sri Lanka on the successful conclusion of the World Conference on Youth 2014.
