Dark memories on 12th June

The aim of the tiger terrorists was to cause carnage and destruction to public property. The damage unleashed by them for thirty years is inestimable.

It was the Commander in Chief and the members of the Security Forces that succeeded in drawing to an end such a bleak period obliterating the terrorists from the country. If not the country would have been still plagued with this menace.

The tiger terrorists grabbed the lives of two war heroes on 12 June 1985 in the Muttur area. On 12th June 1987, these ruthless terrorists stormed into the Godapatha village in Medirigiriya and brutally murdered eight civilians. The next target of these terrorists was also another village it was the Manmunai village.

They barged into the village on 12th June 1991 and dastardly killed 10 innocent civilians. On the same day the terrorists mooted two savage attacks in the Pemaduwa and Kokkadicholai areas and deprived the country of the valuable services of five war heroes. On 12th June in the year 1992, the terrorists unleashed a bomb attack on the war heroes in the Palaly area. As a result two war heroes sacrificed their lives on behalf of the motherland.

In 1994 also on a day like today the tiger terrorists launched a small weapons attack in the area affiliated to the Karainagar Jetty and took away the lives of four war heroes. The terrorists mooted a heinous assault in the Pondukaichchenai area on 12th June 1995. 20 war heroes made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the unity of the motherland.

Several terrorist attacks were launched in the Kilinochchi and Mankulam areas on 12th June 1998 targeting the war heroes, killing six of them. On 12th June 2007, the merciless terrorists took away the lives of three war heroes in an attack launched in the Bandarailuppalaikulam area.

Demented by the continuous defeats suffered, these blood thirsty monsters mooted several attacks targeting groups of war heroes providing security to Janakapura. The country lost the valuable services of two war heroes in these attacks carried out on 12th June 2008.

The heroic soldiers succeeded in vanquishing terrorism which blighted the country in this manner from the Nanthikadal Lagoon. That historic day was 18th May 2009. By then these barbaric terrorists had taken away a total of 77 lives on 12th June throughout the fear psychosis period. This included 19 innocent civilians. The other 58 were brave soldiers who made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the country.

The members of the Security Forces who had the wherewithal to meet any eventuality, advanced in the humanitarian operations under the vibrant and dynamic leadership of President Rajapaksa and the prudent guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa vanquished terrorism and brought enduring peace to the motherland, making supreme sacrifices. This victory was achieved with much dedication.

Many members of the Security Forces sacrificed their lives as well as eyes, heads, hands and limbs in their brave attempts to enthrone freedom in the motherland. They are really eternal heroes after eliminating the LTTE was marhinery. They are really eternal heroes of the era. Although certain local as well as extraneous forces operative against the country cannot see the genuine bravery of these war heroes, the entire nation is eternally indebted to these war heroes who brought freedom to the motherland.

It is the bravery and courage of the war heroes who made supreme sacrifices that are being recounted in these episodes. Action has been taken to display the photographs of the war heroes who made supreme sacrifices in the battle to rout terrorism and discharge a noble service as an honour to the sacrifices they have made.
