Disciplinary action against Pakistan player ....who proposed to Dilshan to embrace Islam
Sri Lankan player T.M.Dilshan was walking out of the grounds after the Sri Lanka - Pakistan cricket match played last 30th in Dambulla and was on his way to the dressing room when Pakistan player Ahamad Shesad had made a religious proposal and
the Pakistan Cricket Association has commenced an investigation into the said incident inferring it was an issue relating to discipline of cricket.
This statement went on tape on Rupavahini and Shesad who was walking with Dilshan when the latter was walking away for some distance on which occasion he had said, "Being not Islamic ... but if you become a Muslim in the future, there's no problem at all .... you can go straight to heaven in your life" (Dilshan instead of making any comment on this, had only smiled. Then, while bidding him goodbye, Shesad said, ("Good ... good .... then get ready for the matter to be launched").
The Pakistan Cricket Association who have said that their attention has been focused on this statement have questioned Shesad to express his views as an excuse for spreading religious ideas on the playground. What he had said was that, "It was only a private talk between the two of us .... there wasn't anything beyond that".
Though no complaint has been forwarded to Sri Lanka Cricket authorities in this connection, it nevertheless reached the attention of Pakistan officials.
37 year old Thillakarathne Dilshan has been born to a Buddhist mother while his father was a Muslim national. At the beginning he had used the name Tuan Mohammed Dilshan. He had changed his name as Thillakarathna Mudiyanselage Dilshan during the period when he received international Test status in the year 1999 and had being following his mother's Sinhala Buddhist name. Though Dilshan changed his name later, it was reported that his brothers and sisters had been using Sinhala names from their small age.
