Basil remanded ..... 12 days in Welikada

Basil Rajapaksa who was taken into custody last evening was brought to Kaduwela Magistrate Court at about 9.35 last night. Both former Secretary of Ministry of Economic Development, Dr. Nihal Jayatilleka and former Director General of Divi Neguma, A.K.K. Ranawaka were produced in courts with Basil and all three were remanded for 12 days until May 5th.During the process of Basil Rajapaksa and the crowd being taken to Kaduwela Magistrate Court, a crowd of over thousand who had assembled outside courts had made an outcry creating an uproar, it is reported. Those involved in this protest had shouted slogans implying their protest at Mr. Basil Rajapaksa being taken into custody. As police security was strengthened at the place, there was no trouble beyond that point. Subsequently all three including Basil were taken to Welikada Jail in the prisons bus.
In the meantime steps had been taken to enforce strict security measures around Welikada Prisons and Baseline Road as public protests could take place, it was learned. Riot squad police teams as well as other police battalions had been posted at various points, it was said.
