Police 'broker' who demanded ransom by videoing couple. inside van in Gannoruwa

Police 'broker' who demanded ransom by videoing couple ....

inside van in Gannoruwa

An uneasy situation has arisen last afternoon because
of an illicit husband - wife activity inside a van parked at a lonely spot in Gannoruwa, Kandy.

A young man who was passing a van has noticed an illicit love-making couple inside it engaging themselves as husband and wife and had videoed the scene from his mobile phone in secret. But the two of them who were enjoying sex inside the vehicle were oblivion to happenings around them. The young man who made a tap on the van after a few minutes made the couple freeze with fear. The two of them who put on the clothes strewn about here and there then opened the door of the vehicle and responded to the intruder. The youth who had plans of scaring the couple and thereby demand money had spoken to the couple and had made them understand that he was attached to the police and that he was able to observe what took place there. "This is a serious offence .... you can't behave indecently like this in a public place. Look here .... I have evidence with me. I videoed everything quite well" (operates it for them to see). At that point the couple had pleaded and said, "Aney .... don't do anything to us .... rescue us". The youth had once more spoken in a loud tone, "O.k. Let's think and see. If I am to dismiss this you'll will have to pay something of a bit of a big sum". The couple who were gripped with fear had actually believed that he was a police officer and had promised to pay the amount demanded by him.

It is learned that the married lady who was in love with this government servant employed in Kegalla area had been asked a sum of 3 lakhs by this youth who had played the role of a policeman. When he was told that there wasn't such a sum of money with them at that moment, the person had asked them to at least speak to a friend and and get them for him. As such, the said government officer had to contact friends and get down only a sum of Rs. 2 lakhs and 20,000 to the van which had been parked in Muruthalawa area in Gannoruwa, Kandy. The said officer had then placed the money in the youth's hand and had said that the balance he would pay the following day and had thus left the place.

Whatever it is, the couple who presumed after leaving the place that they had got duped, happened to report this to Peradeniya Police yesterday (28). They had also told the police that the youth was to come to collect the balance of of 80,000 that day (29) to the place where the incident happened. As such, the couple had gone to that location with the understanding that a team of police officers in civil clothing were staying in ambush and ultimately the police officers intervened and got hold of the youth as soon as he arrived there at the stipulated time. It was revealed at that point that the young man who pretended that he was attached to the police department was in fact someone who was earning his living as a broker.

After he was interrogated, the money he had demanded from the couple earlier too was found in his house. It was said that the suspect broker was produced before the Kandy Magistrate Courts today (29).

The Peradeniya Police Crimes Investigation Unit are conducting further inquiries regarding the incident.

How Mahinda and Maithri really met at a luxury home in Colombo!

Though denied earlier. How Mahinda and Maithri really met at a luxury home in Colombo!

Though denied earlier .....

How Mahinda and Maithri really met at ....

a luxury home in Colombo!

Though the secret rendesvouz between Mahinda and
Maithri which took place at the Speaker's official residence reported by the media as well as national newspapers before the parliament was dissolved last week as a hoax of both parties, news reaching the media by now say that that incident is in reality the truth.

According to what Mawbima the weekend newspaper reports, the meeting between Mahinda and Maithri whose SLFP Party has divided the two of them has met not at the Speaker's official residence but at a distinguished home to discuss a decisive point on the manner in which the votes should be canvassed after the parliament is dissolved. It was groups on both sides who activated the background for this discussion in order to conciliate both of them. The foundation for this was in fact laid last Wednesday. By that time the group who joined in from Maithri faction had planned out the conditions to be forwarded at such a meeting. They had brought forward a proposal to confer an honourable post for Mahinda in the future. If Mahinda was to give consent to that suggestion and was to give support to move the Party towards victory, the Maithri faction has agreed not to carry forward the allegations targetted at him and relatives of his kith and kin in future. The Maithri faction has also suggested that Namal would be given an opportunity of coming forward within the Party. Those who arranged the discussion on behalf of Mahinda had said that if the opportunity for Mahinda to nominate himself as Prime Minister of the SLFP is denied, he is prepared to contest separately.

As such, the Mahinda faction has received a very secret message from Maithri faction by Thursday (25) afternoon and what was stated in the contents was that Maithri is ready to meet Mahinda at a certain luxury house in Colombo and that arrangements have been made for that meeting at 10 in the night on Thursday. Mahinda faction has also been notified that no external individuals would be permitted for the discussion. Though a dinner had been prepared for the Mahinda-group at Western Province Chief Minister Mr. Prasanna Ranatunga on Thursday night, not a word has been spilt there about the Mahinda -- Maithri meeting. When the dinner was in progress, Mahinda had taken leave of the members of parliament exactly at about 9.45 and had said that he has to attend a very special meeting and had thus left from the scene telling those present that he would attend the dinner once more after the said meeting was over.

Mahinda who thus got into his vehicle, straightaway stopped near a luxury house situated at a particular place in Colombo. Even by that time Maithri was present in that house and after the two welcomed each other both of them had proceeded to a room upstairs prepared for the said discussion. As such, the door of the closed room ultimately once again opened only exactly after 25 minutes elapsed. Though subsequent to the discussion Mahinda was planning to proceed straightaway to Prasanna's home and Maithri to his home at Wijerama Mawatha, they had vowed each other that no information regarding the discussion would be exposed.

Though Mahinda had arrived at Prasanna's home and once more participated in the dinner, Mahinda had not disclosed anything about the discussion whatsoever to anyone present there. However, newspapers flashed the news headline the following day that a meeting had taken place "at the Speaker's House". After seeing the news, on orders coming from above, the President's Media Unit issued an announcement early on Friday morning that news reports broadcasting that a meeting was held at "Speaker's Official Residence" is false. The media co-ordinator on behalf of Mahinda Rajapaksa too had issued a rejected media announcement.

I will not ‘SMS’ to self to become the most popular actress - Shalani

In the recent RAIGAM Tele awards ceremony it was Udari Warnakulasuriya who won the award for
the most popular actress. Udari has been acting in only one mega Tele drama currently.

For the Raigam Tele awards the name of Shalani Tharuka was also nominated. But she was not elected. When she was questioned by a popular weekend newspaper during a cordial discussion as to why she has not been elected as the best actress or the most popular actress when her contemporary sister actresses walk away with these awards each year.

The answer given by Shalani Tharuka was that she has no dream to become the most popular actresses as the award is decided on the number of SMS’s sent and received in respect of any actress. To become the most popular actress she needs to send ‘SMS’s to herself. She is a person who would not like to get on stage and receive the award for the best actress in that manner.

She had quipped that the admiration of the fans she receives when she goes on the roads and to other places is her people’s award. In order to become the best actress she had said she is still a novice.

However before she quits the small screen she would become the best actress or at least me among the nominees. In that regard the award is not a requirement for her she had finally quipped
