Mr. Wasantha Zoysa of Anuradhapura, a Karate champion who was
able to get into Guinness Records book by breaking 35 concrete slabs and 20 ice cubes by pressing his forehead at the same time was murdered last night having been subjected to an attack by about 20 persons.

An unidentified group of people who stepped into a night club belonging to him in Muditha Mawatha Anuradhapura last night around 11.45 had attacked him with swords and after being admitted to hospital with serious injuries, finally passed away. A group of about 20 individuals who had planned and come to this spot with faces covered with the intention of attacking him on a past grudge had begun attacking Mr. Wasantha Zoysa and 3 other employees who were present there, with swords and clubs. On that occasion the said group of people had even damaged 10 or 15 vehicles that had been parked close to the night club.

Wasantha and the employees who were injured from the attack had been admitted to Anuradhapura Hospital and hospital sources confirmed that Wasantha succumbed to his injuries on admission. The dead body of Alexander Wasantha Wickrama de Zoysa who was 57 years old at the time of his death lies at the hospital mortuary and the post mortem examination is expected to be conducted today. The other 3 victims are under treatment at the Anuradhapura Hospital.

The assailants in this instance have still not been identified or have been taken into custody. Anuradhapura Police are conducting investigations in this connection. Mr. Wasantha Zoysa who is a Black Belt who was successful in etching his name in the Guinness Book of Records is one of the handful of Sri Lankans who was able to get his name included there.
