Imesha - Sharon in Dehiwala train accident

Imesha - Sharon in Dehiwala train accident - Investigation

The incident involving the two schoolgirls Imesha Yasara and Sharon Veronica who died from a train tragedy in Dehiwala was an incident which became perhaps the biggest talk of the town last week.

Allegations were aimed at the media from the parties on the side of the deceased that some reports published were incorrect in this connection and they had rejected the point that they faced the mishap 'because they had earphones plugged in
their ears'.  The Head Prefect of the school inclusive of other groups of people had given telephone calls to various media having enforced the media to withdraw that part of the news.

However after the incident a team of Rupavahini cameramen had been present at Raymonds Funeral Parlour to capture on video the funeral proceedings of one of the students and in the process they had been subjected to objection by those present there with cameras being relieved from their procession, it was reported. The relatives involved had later taken steps to hand over the cameras; but the memory chips had been missing. The media had however on this occasion had the patience to face the aggressive behaviour of the student's relatives concerning this situation.

After the story that was revealed across the media that a party had been arranged on behalf of the boy friend but that the parents were told that they were going for a female friend's birthday party, the Dehiwala Police had proceeded to secure a statement from the said young man. What incidentally was at the bottom of this revelation was the information given by a friend of the boy who drove the vehicle concerned which incidentally was stated on a website published across the Facebook by another. The friend who made the comment had even not attended the final rites and because the others were outraged over his comments for revealing all this was supposed to be instead confining himself in his home, it was said. It was possible to know that on interrogation of the boy friend by the police that the information that the girl had rushed across the railway track in a mighty hurry because she had wanted to go there without his notice and that the accident had taken place because of that excitement, has been revealed.

--------------------------------------------------

The accident has happened and finished now. But what should be taken into consideration is that there is something left behind for parents of nowadays to think about in connection with these mishaps.

The deceased Imesha had told the parents that she was going to attend a female friend's birthday party in Dehiwala after school was over after having attended a tuition class. She had subsequently been preparing herself to be present at the surprise party to be given to her boy friend and this was at her friend Sharon's home in Wellawatta. Later they had travelled in a vehicle to a super restaurant by the seaside and the vehicle happened to have been driven by a friend of her lover.

This type of behaviour is not something to be surprised at when taking into account a girl belonging to a high-middle class family of Colombo. But everybody in this country does not view this in the same perspective.

Is the action that this girl had engaged in by telling a lie to her parents and did so on behalf of her boy friend, correct or acceptable? From where does a schoolgirl have the money to spend for a super-party such as this? What business do girls have in spending time with boys during night time at beachside hotels? This question has occured in the minds of some people.

Tania Seneviratna the mother of Imesha Yasara Perera resident of Singharamulla, Kelaniya who identified the daughter's body had made the following statement in the presence of the Coroner, Mr. Parinda Kotugoda at the attestation conducted at Kalubowila Colombo South Teaching Hospital in relation to the incident where the two students met with a railway accident:

"The deceased is my daughter. My husband is ailing. Since he's suffering from Leukemia he didn't come. My daughter was to sit for the GCE Advanced Level Exam scheduled to be held next August. As far as I know she was not suffering from any ailment. On 26th morning she went to school. She attended Holy Family Convent in Bambalapitiya. After school was over my daughter attended a tuition class at Shakthi. She called me over the phone and said that after finishing that class she would be going for a friend's birthday party. After that at about 7.20 in the night we spoke to her over the phone. Later I went to the doctor with my husband. During that time we had received telephone calls. At about 8 in the night I called daughter. Since she didn't respond, I contacted a phone number I had received. It was then that I came to know that my daughter had got struck by a train".

On this occasion the Coroner Mr. Parinda Kotugoda expressed an advice of great concern. He said:  "Losing young valuable lives like this is a great loss to the country. If more attention was exercised at the time of crossing the railway track, both these students would have not had to give their lives. In the same way .... even parents, it is very important to focus more attention to their children".

Businessman Mr. A.S.P. Liyanage who dedicated himself to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and was even a sequential political candidate, coming forward to gift his house too to him has made a decision of joining the incumbent President Maithripala's faction. This decision he has made across newspapers as a paid announcement. The announcement which was
displayed across pages of several newspapers during the past few days under the caption 'Ma enawa' (I am coming) as a pre-announcement has today (29) been publicized on a complete page as a full announcement.

The said announcement carries a praise about President Maithripala as an individual 'who did not become king by robbing!' and has also made the appeal 'Get together in Galle with President Maithri'. The announcement has been published with Mr. Liyanage and his daughter of the Labour Party.

Former President Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa has even bestowed him the position of ambassador of Nigeria too and has further extended large favours to him, it is understood. Even though after the political defeat he did not forget the former President and went as far as handing over to him the Peacock Mansion which he had built on behalf of his mother for his activities, it did not come through because of various issues. Because of the information that Mahinda bought Peacock Mansion after paying millions of rupees, Mr. Liyanage too was subject to interrogation by the FCID. Later on Mr. Liyanage himself made a complaint to the police about a suspicion connected to the sand-filled swimming pool of the mansion and thus managed to evacuate that sand.

A.S.P. Liyanage who presented Othello on stage, Kavuluwa in the cinema and Himi Ahimi across Rupavahini was also the patron of Peduru Saajje which was broadcast over the ITN channel. The announcement which was published in favour of Maithri, from below

"Joint opposition" is a wrong introductory phase - Government cautions

Secretary of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Ministry, Attorney at law, Nimal Bopage in a media release today said that there were reports of some media organizations and journalists engaging in what he called ‘illegal and unscrupulous use’ of media to sponsor a section of the M.Ps belonging
to one main Governing party, who call themselves the ‘Joint Opposition’.

He warned the journalists that such misuse could make them legally liable.
“The Government and the Opposition of contemporary Parliament had been clearly characterized today. In this circumstances, I have received reports that some media institutions and journalists are promoting a collective called ‘Joint Opposition’, created arbitrarily by several M.Ps without the contribution of neither the Opposition Leader nor the Chief Opposition Whip.
“Reports say the Joint Opposition is engaged in an organized political propaganda and some media aiding the promotion of it without any thoughtfulness,” Bopage said in the media release.
He said even the Speaker had pointed out the fault in the concept of Joint Opposition and said the professional integrity of the experienced, reputed and mature journalists, would be severely damaged by such media exploitation.
“Misuse of media in this manner sets bad and illegal precedent and journalists could be legally liable. Various persons would attempt to accomplish their narrow gains through misuse of media in the future. Therefore, I request journalists to follow their conscience to put an end to media misuse and to preserve thriving media freedom,” he said.
Nimal Bopage went on to note that the Good Governance Government was able to improve media freedom within a short span of time.

Piyumi Hansamali speaks about her fake publicity

Piyumi Hansamali speaks about her fake publicity

The new actress Piyumi Hansamali who she says has acted in about two unpopular tele dramas has by now been subjected to a dialogue in websites of a prominent nature because of utterly useless reasons.

The readers are sometimes perplexed as for what reasons these media sectors wish to give her publicity to matters such as for having getting married at a tender age, kissing the son's mouth and appearing in the swimming pool half naked. Sometime back the Sarasaviya newspaper
addressed her and enquired from her about this and in those circumstances what she she had given as her response are the following factors.

* First tell us about your performing activities.
I acted in Mr. Anuruddha Jayasingha's tele drama called Modera Bambaru. The shooting of that tele drama is over. Apart from that I didn't do anything else.

* Why is there so much gossip created about you?
I can't understand. I can't even give a kiss to my child and publish photos. That also becomes a gossip. Whatever type of photo is taken ... it automatically becomes a gossip.

* Isn't it that you take photos in a manner which breeds news?
Not at all. I take photos in a way which depicts my own identity. I don't see anything wrong in that. But those who look at it from outside looks at it from various angles. Should I put photos by giving a kiss to the next-door neighbour's child without giving a kiss to my own child?

* Isn't that situation a problem to you?
I am not someone who react by taking any of those things into my head. But in certain instances I am not even able to drink a glass of juice in freedom .... people surround me.

* That means, though you don't act much in dramas ... Piyumi ... you are so popular?
Yes. Looking at it that way, I am really lucky. I have still acted in two tele dramas only. But I am more popular than other mega-drama actresses!

* To the extent that you attract comments for various other things ... why is it that you don't get comments in an equal manner about your acting?
A lot of people don't know that I am an actress. Many of those who browse the internet don't watch T.V. So how can they make comments about my performances?

* Is it true that your son takes your newspaper articles to school?
Aney .. yes. He likes so much about articles being published about me in newspapers. He collects those articles and shows them to the children. Then he tells me about comments made by them.

* Is your idea to remain in this field continuously?
Expenditure in this country is too much. The money I get for my activities is certainly absolutely negligible. So I am thinking of going abroad with my son after a short time, in the future.

Imesha Yasara's FB profile turns into mode of remembrance

Imesha Yasara's FB profile turns into mode of remembrance

The Facebook Account of Imesha Yasara Perera who was one of those who became a prey to a train at Dehiwala recently has been something that became a matter of search for most people after her
demise.

What really happens to the Facebook Account of someone who maintains it after his or her death was something that was subject to a dialogue sometime ago. While someone who is nominated by the deceased is given the ability or permission of maintaining that Account, it is observed that Yasara's Account too had been controlled by someone and this fact is seen from changes effected in it. It is said that while certain facts had been changed in it in a favourable manner to her, it has been stated above her name that this Account is in operation for the sake of her memory. Additions of new friends and transmission of messages have been blocked.

Yasara's well wishers who views this Page of Yasara who bade goodbye leaving behind pleasant memories would indeed feel a sense of unbearable emotion, no doubt.
