A.R. Rahman's Sri Lanka concert cancelled

A.R. Rahman's Sri Lanka concert cancelled

The world-renown musician, A.R. Rahman who hailed from South India was to hold a music concert on forthcoming 23rd at Colombo Galle Face esplanade. But he has announced that he had abandoned the concert and that he would not
be visiting Sri Lanka. The reason for this is that Tamil supporters of the Tiger Movement had staged a protest in front of his home compelling him not to go to Sri Lanka, it was reported. The arrival of Rahman the latter who had won the hearts of Sri Lankan fans too in a big way for a number of decades would contribute towards the tranquility of races who were divided over the ethnic issue as the Sinhalese and the Tamils was a topic that was discussed among media groups in recent times. In the meantime even propaganda activities too had been launched to issue tickets for this concert.

Whatever it is, it has been informed that he would not be coming here with still just a few days away for his arrival. In the process the Indian web site Glitz says that the reason for Rahman's refusal to come is not due to any dislike of the Tamil community as such but instead the the influence exerted by Sinhala racist politicians who had put a stop to his arrival once they came to know about this concert. What another report says is that this was postponed because of the elections in India.

Whatever it is, A.R. Rahman held a prominent place in South Indian Artistes' Associations the latter of whom had got together after the era of the civil war in Sri Lanka and the death of Prabhakaran and this musician was among the crowd who made allegations that war crimes did take place in Sri Lanka.

The abandoned concert has been organised with the mediation of Hulls Studio and Maharaja Organisation.
