The Ministry of Agriculture has decided to grant compensation for paddy lands devastated in the floods that impacte the Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi Districts.
Minister P. Harrison has given instructions to take action to gather information on the damage caused to the paddy lands in the Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu Districts and grant insurance compensation to the farmers. Based on the mode of paying compensation through agrarian insurance during a devastation caused to cultivations, a sum of 100 thousand rupees will be paid for one hectare at the rate of 40 thousand rupees if paddy cultivations had been damaged by floods. The Ministry of Agriculture has decided to pay a fifty percent subsidy that will be given to farmers who has suffered damages to their cultivations in the Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi Districts in addition to a fertilizer subsidy.
