The tiger terrorists displayed the ferocity of their brutality to the entire world for 30 years unleashing massive destruction in the country.
The brutality of the blood thirsty terrorists cannot be a secret in the past as well as at present. Even though some attempt to wipe out this ruthlessness, its nature is embedded in the episodes of this dark era.
22nd November 1990 was a day which clearly portrayed the cruelty of the tiger terrorists to the world. 96 war heroes lost their lives in a serious attack unleashed by the terrorists in the Mankulam area transgressing war regulations. Thus the terrorists commenced their killing spree on 22nd November during the dark period.
Three innocent civilians died in 1995, following an attack launched by the ruthless terrorists in the Karaithivu Island. On the same day, war heroes unveiling the Riviresa Operation commenced their advancement with the intention of protecting Palaly. The tiger terrorists unleashed a brutal assault on them. As a result 21 gallant soldiers made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the unity of the country on a day like today.
On the same day an AN 32 aircraft commenced its journey to Palaly from the Ratmalana Airport carrying a group of war heroes. However, the aircraft could not pass Karainagar. 60 war heroes and three civilians were killed when it was attacked by the terrorists. The ruthless terrorists unleashed another attack at Irana-iluppakulam on 22nd November, 1999. 10 gallant soldiers were killed, despite the tiger terrorists being driven away by counter attacks launched by the war heroes.
On 22nd November, 2008 terrorists were on the search for blood to quench their thirst, unleashed an attack in Kilaly, taking away the lives of two war heroes. Two more war heroes were killed in a bomb exploded by the terrorists on the same day in the Andankulam area. Four civilians were killed and 196 war heroes made supreme sacrifices on 22nd November throughout the fear psychosis period.
If not for ending this cruel thirst for blood by the terrorists on 18th May 2009 at the Nanthikadal Lagoon, there was a possibility of the country becoming a land of the dead. The war heroes advanced during the operations against the terrorists under the bold leadership of the Commander in Chief President Rajapaksa. They thus routed the terrorists and enthroned freedom in the country, setting a good example to the world on how terrorism should be annihilated.
It was a humanitarian operation which was beyond a war. This massive operation was launched not to kill but to liberate the lives of innocent civilians injecting new life to the North as well as South. Some could not bear this triumph. British Prime Minister David Cameron is seeking inquiry reports from Sri Lanka. But he took 40 years to submit a report on the killing of 13 innocent civilians in his country in 1972. Four years had passed since the ending of the conflict in Sri Lanka and isn’t it ludicrous for him to seek a report on the conflict from Sri Lanka. Reports should be sought not from the country but from the tiger terrorists who brutally assaulted innocent civilians.
