Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has revealed that digitalization will be in place in Sri Lanka next year.
The Minister made this disclosure addressing the media after a discussion with the visiting Japanese Vice Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Masahiro Yoshizaki. Their meeting took place at the Media Ministry. A special Japanese delegation joined the visiting Vice Minister at these talks.
Further expressing his views to the media, Minister Rambukwella said that Sri Lanka would receive many benefits through the digitalization process.
The Minister said that Japan had made submissions for the digitalization process in Sri Lanka. Initially objections were raised saying that there are other suitable strategies. He pointed out that it should be evaluated as what is more suitable and more beneficial for the country and how far it is commercially viable. Test runs are already in progress in the Japanese system. Also the European system has given their analysis. The final evaluation will be decided on the benefits the country will reap. He noted that Japan had said that they are prepared to add more incentives. The Minister also revealed their intention was to complete the programme by the year 2016.
In the meantime, a discussion was held between heads of many media institutions and the Japanese delegation. Secretary to the Media Ministry Charitha Herath, ITN Chairman Rosmand Senaratne and ITN General Manager Aruna Wijesinghe were also present on the occasion.
