The funeral of Sri Lankan educationalist R.I.T. Alles is scheduled to take place at the General Cemetery Kanatte on Monday. He passed away last night at the age of 81. His remains will be placed at D.S. Senanayake College from 8 am to 10 am on Monday.
His remains are now lying at his residence at Kuruppu Mawatha, at Cotta Road in Borella, Our special representative said that large crowds are converging on his residence to pay last respects to him.
Mr. Alles was born in Galle on 03rd October 1932. Being the founding principal of D.S. Senanayake College, he was also the Chairman of the Gateway Group. After having his academic studies at St. Aloysius College Galle and and at St. Anthony’s College in Kandy, he started his career as teacher and eventually becoming an assistant principal of Royal College Colombo. He helped to establish the D.S. Senanayake College in 1967. He rendered yeoman service for the education of the children of Sri Lanka.
Many of whom who have pursued studies under him as now holding high positions. The services discharged by him to mould a group of disciplined teachers and a student generation are outstanding.
He was the father of Parliamentarian Tiran Alles, Dr. Harsha Alles, a medical doctor turned cooperate executive in the Gateway Group and of late Malick Alles. He was the husband of Rohini Alles, the Manager of the Gateway Educational Institute. The Funeral of R.I.T. Alles will take place at the General Cemetery Kanatte on Monday afternoon.
