Project Miniser Rohitha Abeygunawardena has said that the United National Party which greeted Channel Four journalists attempting to take the war heroes to the war crimes tribunal, had brutally assaulted members of the Maha Sangha. Referring to yesterday’s ordeal at Sirikotha, the Minister said that it would take more time for the UNP to pay for their sins.
The Minister said that it is not only at present that the UNP was humiliating the Maha Sangha. They had seen and heard how the UNP in the past had assaulted and hindered the Maha Sangha. They can remember how the Ven. Walpola Rahula Thera and the Ven. Labuduwe Siridhamma Thera of the Getambe Vihare were assaulted during the JR Jayawardene era.
He queried whether the UNP is a Party and how it would rule the country if it assumed power. If so it would amount to a major sin. He also queried as to on whose behalf that the Channel Four journalists were garlanded and welcomed. Were they supporting the LTTE and the Tamil Diaspora? The Minister added that the entire nation is vigilant as to what the United National Party was doing at present.
