UNP apologizes to Maha Sangha

Add comments

The United National Party has apologized to the Maha Sangha on account of any improper action that may have taken place within Sirikotha. UNP Parliamentarians Ravi Karunanayake, Daya Gamage and Ruwan Wijewardena in making the apology claimed that they were not aware that such an incident was taking place.

The entire country is aware of video footage which proves that these Parliamentarians who claim they were not in the Office were also involved in the attacks outside.

It has already been proven with evidence that some Non Governmental Organizations in one section of Sirikotha, the United National Party Headquarters, unleashed a massive conspiracy to denigrate the country when the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting was staged last week. Publicity was given to such photographs and video footage in some popular media.

The Maha Sangha and the public protested opposite the Sirikotha during the last few days condemning such actions against the country. The Non Government Organizations had endeavoured in this manner to give the many foreign journalists who had come to the island the information they needed to file accusations against the country through some parents of LTTE suicide cadres, covertly luring them to the UNP Head Office.

Our camera crew was able to record video footage as how some Channel Four journalists had crept into the UNP Head Office to get voice cuts from these parents.

United National Party supporters and NGO groups enraged by the efforts of the Maha Sangha to make inquiries had assaulted them. Although the Maha Sangha had visited Sirikotha on an invitation extended by Chairman of the United National Party Leadership Council Karu Jayasuriya, they were not accorded a welcome but were attacked and driven away. However, under these circumstances, the Maha Sangha and the patriotic fraternity retreated from the Sirikotha environs, as they did not wished to discredit the country at a time when State leaders as well as foreign journalists were in the country for the Commonwealth Summit. Initially no one approached the Maha Sangha when they visited Sirikotha this morning to make inquiries into this incident to deliberate with them.

A Buddhist monk said that when a problem arises for the hierarchy of Sirikotha with regard to members of the Sangha, they have witnessed how the UNP respected the Sangha’s rights. Such is their democracy. Hence they had several queries to raise. Why was Sirikotha rented out to NGOs to betray the motherland? Also they wished to query about attempts made to internationalize issues which should be sorted out within the country with the aim of achieving parochial political aims. He said they needed to query the UNP’s view in this regard.

Finally Parliamentarians Ravi Karunanayake, Daya Gamage and Ruwan Wijewardena approached them. Strong protests arose from the crowds that had gathered on the spot. But they remained calm following a request made by Sangha and gave them an opportunity to express their views. These Parliamentarians said they were not aware that there were any operations to discredit the country or entice separatism. However, they emphasized that if any such incident had happened they wished to make an apology to the Maha Sangha.

If Ravi Karunayake says so, who is this person in Sirikotha and what is he doing?

But Parliamentarian and General Secretary of the UNP Tissa Attanayake or Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera or Wickremabahu Karunaratne of the common opposition who were within Sirikotha organizing these activities at that time were not there to seek an apology from the Sangha.

The monk said that they have lodged a complaint with the Police. He called on them to immediately arrest NGO leaders such as Brito Fernando and Thilak Kariyawasam.
