The LTTE caused colossal damage to the country for thirty years.
The chain of violence started on 25th December 1990 with the killing of a soldier. The terrorists attacked a group of soldiers who were on duty in Paranthan area killing four of them on 25th December 1999. On the same day a bunker of the security forces was attacked in Vavuniya killing two soldiers. The terrorists triggered a claymore explosion in Meeyankulam on 25th December 2006 targeting a vehicle that transported a group of soldiers. Three soldiers laid down their lives. On 25th December 2008 the LTTE targeted groups of soldiers in Kumanamunai in Mulaitivu killing two of them. When terrorism was eliminated from the land on 18th May 2009 a total of 24 lives including that of 2 civilians and 22 soldiers had been lost to the nation. The security forces that advanced under the leadership of the Commander In Chief of the security forces President Mahinda Rajapaksa ushered in peace at the expense of many sacrifices. All communities are living harmoniously today in the motherland which was won by them. This has disturbed certain sectors here and abroad. Their objective has been to create conflict in the country once again. They exercise numerous strategies in this connection. The patriotic people have a good understanding of such people. They are aware of the action needed to overcome such forces. It is not once that they displayed to the world that they are prepared to make any sacrifice to protect the motherland. Our soldiers rescued nearly 300 thousand people from the clutches of the terrorists and taught a lesson to the world. Those who are unbiased are of the view that is the best certification for the protection of human rights.
