A Horse Conservation Centre is to be established in the DelftIsland to further attract tourism.
Minister Vijith Vijayamuni Soysa expressed this view to the media after a visit to the DelftIsland in Jaffna.
The Minister said that they have taken a decision to conserve the horses. This decision was mainly taken as the horses were facing the problem of securing g the food and water they need.
There is a major horse population within the Delft Island. Statistics reveal that there are more than 300 horses in this island. The relocation or sale of any horses in this island is barred under the existing laws. As a result it has been found that the horses which are rapidly increasing in population are facing serious problems due to lack of food and water. Taking into consideration these issues, it has been decided to establish a horse conservation Centre spanning 100 acres in the island. The Conservation Centre will come up so that it would become tourist attraction location.
