The Police have launched an operation to minimize road accidents during the festive season. Accordingly a special 24-hour operation will be in place to arrest drunken drivers and those who flout vehicle regulations.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that this round the clock operation will be in place for two weeks.

SSP Ajith Rohana said that the Police are implementing a special traffic plan from today to apprehend drunk drivers as it has been observed that many accidents had taken place last year during this festive season due to drunk driving.

He pointed out that this plan will be operative for two weeks round the clock. Traffic Inspectors have been advised to apprehend drunk drivers. The driving license will be suspended if anyone is found guilty of this offence. In addition the Court may impose a jail sentence. A 10-year rigorous imprisonment could be imposed if anyone hurts or kills someone due to drunk driving.

The Police Media Spokesman appealed to drivers to refrain from driving after taking liquor.
