Raids are successfully being conducted to track down unscrupulous traders who sell foods unsuitable for human consumption during the festive season.
Several stocks of food that had exceeded their expiry dates were detected in Badulla and Alawwa. The Public Health Inspectors in Kurunegala district seized the food stocks including expired meat and fish that were prepared for sale. The persons who prepared the food for sale were handed over to the Police. The raid was carried out under the guidance of the district Health Services Director. Meanwhile the Public Health Inspectors in Badulla seized stocks of big onions, sprats and dry fish that were not suitable for consumption. Police also arrested a person who was selling the food from lorry within the CWE premises. On questioning it was discovered that the CWE was unaware of the sale.
