240 Police Constables recruited from the Tamil medium to further consolidate reconciliation in the North and East have passed out.
240 Police Constables and 233 Police Drivers recruited for the benefit of the Tamil speaking population in the North and the East passed out in this manner. The passing out parade was held at the Police Training College in Kalutara under the auspices of Inspector General of Police N.K. Ilangakoon. The new Police Officers will be posted to serve in the North and the East.
A Police Constable said he is living in the Alaveddi area in Jaffna. He studied in the Jaffna Central College. He said he joined the Police Service to serve the Tamils living in Jaffna.
Another Police Constable pointed out that he was born in Jaffna but is living in the Elalai area. The Tamil speaking civilians are encountered with many problems. He desired to sought out their problems when submitted in the Tamil Language. He believed that the Sri Lanka Police Department has achieved a notable victory.
