The Young Lawyers Association of Sri Lanka has emphasized that it could not permit the destruction of peace and freedom enthroned in the North, to protect the rights of the Tamil civilians through the endeavours of separatists. The Association has severely denounced the activities of the Tamil National Alliance spreading terrorism.
The young lawyers were addressing a news briefing at the SLFI in Colombo.
Dr. Kanchana Silva, President of the Young Lawyers Association said the TNA has become a party which talks about only their rights. It is an extremist political party. There is a doubt that the rights demanded by them are that of the Party or the Tamil speaking community. The Northern Governor is the representative of the Executive in the North. It is not a problem for the Tamils of the North. It should be underscored that the need is for those of the Tamil Alliance in Tamil Nadu and the Tamil Diaspora.
National Organizer of the Young Lawyers Association Attorney Premnath Dolawtte pointed out that the TNA is the political structure of the LTTE outfit. He said that their behaviour is not a surprise to them. They are attempting to push the country towards separatism which they could achieve by war through the exploitation of the Tamil civilians. All these problems are being created by the Tamil Diaspora, loyal to the tigers. He claimed that the Kilinochchi town is beautiful than Kollupitiya. Notherners can come to Colombo while those in the South can visit the North. He queried whether these were not expectations.
Attorney Manoj Gamage, Secretary of the Association said
the TNA Parliamentarians entered Parliament by taking an oath that they would not directly or indirectly support to divide the country. It is an illegal concept to pave the way for a division of the country. He mentioned that this is a flagrant violation of the country’s Constitution. He said their Association strongly deplore the statements made by the TNA Parliamentarian under the cover of Parliamentary privileges. He said the country could not be permitted to be transformed against into a pond of blood. He added that no one had the right to do so.
Deputy Secretary of the Sri Lanka Young Lawyers Association Priyantha Karunatilake noted that instead of discussing the real issues of the Tamil civilians in the North, the Tamil National Alliance Parliamentarians are talking about insignificant problems to prevent good governance and improving the standards of living. Violating the provisions of the Constitution on the National Flag is clearly anti-constitutional and illegal. He appealed to the TNA Parliamentarians from engaging in these illegal activities. The people of the country are not prepared to permit any local or international force to destroy the peaceful environment prevailing in the country. He said that they are ready to support such a progressive fraternity to protect the country.
