Ministry of Economic Development, Central Environmental Authority, Wild Life Conservation Department and Nuwara Eliya District Secretariat have jointly launched an operation to remove invasive plants in Horton Plains. Horton Plains with biodiversity has gained special attention of both local and foreign tourists. Horton Plains is considered as the only national wildlife park in the wet zone. It has some of the unique and rear species of animals and plant varieties. The invasive plant “Urakes Europia” has become a threat to other varieties of plants in the Horton Plains. Expressing his views Nuwara Eliya District Secretary D.P.G. Kumarasiri said that they have taken steps to protect the Horton Plains by removing invasive plants.
