Octane 92 replacing Octane 90 is available from today. The official release of Octane 92 to motorists took place under the patronage of Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa.
The official release of Octane 92 petrol to motorists took place at the C.F. De Mel Filling Station at Sir Chitthampalam A Gardiner Mawatha in Colombo this morning. Accordingly Octane 90 petrol is being withdrawn from the market from today. Octane 92 is being sold at the Octane 90 price.
The Minister said that the standard of fuel in the world has enhanced. As such they considered introducing this programme to Sri Lanka too. This has been informed to Lanka IOC. He revealed that they had to incur an additional expenditure of 80 cents per litre following the introduction of Octane 92. However, they decided to bore this burden without passing it on to the consumer. The Minister said that that their next intention is to introduce a billing machine to filling stations providing standard fuel.
As the efficiency of Octane 92 fuel is high its consumption is les than Octane 90. Also it helps to increase the life span of the engines of motor vehicles. A majority of countries are using Octane 92 due to its vast benefits. Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardena and Secretary to the Ministry of Petroleum Industries R.H.H.S. Samaratunge were among those present on the occasion.
