Public Sector begins work for the New Year

President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunge, extending his greetings for the New Year, has called on the entire public sector to work with dedication and discharge all duties entrusted to them efficiently in the New Year.


The launch of work for the Year 2014 at the Presidential Secretariat was held under the patronage of President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunge.

The President’s Secretary said that he wished to announce the President is quite satisfied with the work discharged by officials serving in every position sans differences during the past year. He urged all public servants to discharge the duties entrusted to them honestly on behalf of the country,

The staff of the Presidential Secretariat made a solemn pledge before the President’s Secretary and commenced work for the New Year.

The launch of work for the New Year of the Ministry of Mass Media and Information was held under the auspices of Minister Keheliya Rambukwella. Priority was given to religious observances. Supervision MP Manusha Nanayakkara, Ministry Secretary Charitha Herath and Government Information Director General Prof. Ariyartne Ethugala joined in this occasion.

Work for the New Year of the Ministry of Public Administration was held under the patronage of Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne. The theme was “Proving an efficient service to realize the expectations of the people.”

Minister Gamini Lokuge participated in the launch of work of the Ministry of Labour Relations giving priority to religious observances.

Project Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena has said that the present era of President Rajapaksa is the golden era of the Public Service. He made this reference at the launch of work of the Ministry of Highways, Port and Aviation for the New Year.

Official duties of the Ministry of Power and Energy for the year 2014 commenced today under the auspices of Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi. She said that the New Year should be considered as an year which would mark a milestone in the energy sector.

Public servants of the North commenced their work for the New Year this morning giving the pledge of dedication to the public service to Northern Governor G.A. Chandrasiri at the Governor’s Office.

Work at the Southern Province chief Minister’s office for the New Year began this morning under the auspices of Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal de Silva making the solemn pledge of dedication to public service. Official ceremonies of many Provincial Ministries were also held.

The staff of Independent Television Network commenced official duties for the New Year under the auspices of Chairman Rosmand Senaratne giving prominence to religious observances. Thereafter school gear including books were distributed among children of Mandadeniya a school with less facilities in the Ratnapura District and also among pre school children.
