Army Volunteer Force teethed with more professionals

The Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force with its reputed history of more than 118 years, is to be further flanked with more professionals from both public and private sectors after revitalizing its voluntary reserve.

The project was necessitated with the Army, now expanding its wings into many areas of public service with its active participation in mega development projects, which are underway.

Military Spokesman Brig. Ruwan Wanigasooriya during a news briefing at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre in Colombo yesterday, spelt out that professionals in many fields, are to be absorbed into the volunteer reserve on the instructions of the Defence Secretary.

The Military Spokesman said that Professionals under the age of 55 can now join the SLAVF depending on requirements and specific qualifications while simultaneously receiving enlistment and commissioning as Lieutenant Colonels and Colonels in the Volunteer Force. The project was necessitated with the Army, now expanding its wings into many areas of public service with its active participation in mega development projects, which are underway. Brig. Wanigasuriya said that those professionals, unlike others enlisting to the Force, can continue to serve until they turn 55 years, wearing a rank. Such enlisted personnel are entitled to receive benefits in the field of medicine, welfare, transport, insurance, salary and others applicable to the relevant rank.
