A giant yam weighing 15 kilograms has been harvested from Minister Maithripala Sirisena’s home garden.
There is a significant home garden at the official residence of Minister Sirisena in Colombo where a successful harvest has been reaped. A notable feature is the non-use of chemical fertilizer. The Minister has harvested this yam species which was been introduced to Sri Lanka by the Agricultural Department in 1976. Commenting on the harvesting of this giant yam, the Minister said that as a person who appreciates nature, the earth has duly responded to him because of the respect he has shown to earth.
