The United People’s Freedom Alliance is prepared to achieve a resounding victory at the forthcoming Western and Southern Provincial polls. Joining in a media briefing in Colombo today, Government Ministers pointed out that they have fielded candidates who have the highest qualifications to serve in these Provincial Councils
Minister Susil Premajayantha said that the United National Party was issuing statements and mulling over whether they could assume power with the support of foreign forces. He asserted that the Freedom Alliance had no intention of assuming power with the support of any foreign force. It has the self-strength to assume power until the nation is with the President.
He emphatically mentioned that the UNP as the main Opposition would be securing a voter percentage from the six districts, less than it secured at the last Provincial poll. They now had to battle to maintain its second position in some electorates. He said that the nation should make use of this election to give a clear message to the people.
Minister Dulles Alahapperuma said a high number of professionals, women, and youth which the Freedom Alliance did not earlier have for any election, are being represented at this poll. There are 18 representing the legal profession in addition to four engineers and two doctors. There are also nine educationists. He said the Party is armed in every sector that can meet the needs of the people.
The Minister was optimistic of a resounding victory, under the leadership of the President on the 29th of March, particularly at a time when there is an international challenge to the country’s leadership. This he added would indicate to the world that the people are with this leadership.
Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said they have a democratic leader and the Government was moving forward. The UNP and other parties lack democracy. As such they are debilitating. Everyone should take another step forward at this polls to carry forward moral politics instead of corrupt politics. The Freedom Alliance will be taking every possible measure in this respect. He solicited the support of the entire nation. The Minister made a fervent appeal to defeat conspiracies to destabilize the country.
