Several UNP stalwarts of the Western and Southern Province have joined the Freedom Alliance supporting the Government’s efforts to build the country.
This group secured membership of the Freedom Alliance at a meeting held in Mirigama under the patronage of Minister Basil Rajapaksa to consolidate the victory of the Alliance candidates contesting the polls for the Western Provincial Councils. Among them were more than 200 active members of the United National Party.
A large group of traditional United National Party supporters joined the Freedom Alliance at a public meeting held at Narawelpita in Hakmana under the auspices of Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena. Securing membership of the Freedom Alliance this group said their intention was to support development efforts of the Government which has enthroned peace in the country.
Meanwhile more than one hundred United National Party supporters secured membership of the Freedom Alliance at a public meeting held in the Maragahahena area in Akuressa. This public meeting was presided by Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekara.
