North Korea opened its annual flower festival today to honour the birthday of the country’s late leader, Kim Jong Il. More than 28-thousand Kimjongilia flowers were on display at the exhibition hall in the capital Pyongyang. The flower festival features display stands of Kimjongilia flowers arranged with models and illustrations aimed at celebrating achievements that North Korea is proud of. The Festival runs from 14 to 21 February.
Meanwhile, Lantern shows are being held across China to celebrate the traditional Lantern Festival which falls today. The lantern exhibition held in the city of Panjin in northeast China’s Liaoning Province involved staged groups of lanterns in various shapes and colors, such as horses and cranes. People came from all over the surrounding areas to see the colorful creations. The Lantern Festival is celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunar Chinese calendar and it marks the last day of Chinese New Year celebrations.
