Deputy Minister Weerakumara Dissanayake has said that the presentation of Shilpa 2014 prizes organized by the Ministry of Traditional Industries and Small Entrepreneurship Development will take place at the BMICH tomorrow.
The Deputy Minister revealed this at a news conference held at the Information Department auditorium presided by Minister Douglas Devananda. Revelations were also made on the development projects chalked out by the Ministry.
The Deputy Minister said that there are many villages which are popular for clay and silver-based products. Craftsmen in these villages have been engaged in these industry for generations. They will be engaged in these industries only if their economy is strengthened according to the Mahinda Chinthana. Necessary attention was not diverted to them. As such the President as well as their Minister were now mainly focusing attention on them and providing the necessary strength.
Deputy Minister Dissanayake said the President believes that the upgrading of small industries is the backbone in the development of the country’s economy. As such he added that the President’s arrival tomorrow will take place with the intention of encouraging each and every one of them.
