The Maha Sangha and intellectuals are appreciating the support of the President to protect future generations by eradicating drug menace.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa recently directed all stakeholders to commit themselves to eradicating the drug menace to mould a healthy future generation with sound moral values. At present the national programme on eradication of the drug use and tobacco, is being implemented successfully. Steps have been taken to conduct raids and search operations simultaneously with community briefing programmes on the repercussions of drug use. The Maha Sangha and the intellectuals have praised the efforts of the government led by the President to protect the country from drug menace in a manner similar to that in which the country was saved from ruthless terrorism.
Venerable Agalakada Sirisumana Thero said that there are four religions in the country. He pointed out that drugs destroyed the youth and the culture of the country. Police are making maximum efforts to eradicate drugs. The President has instructed to get the assistance of Civil Defence Committees in this regard. He invited everyone to make the country drugs free.
Principal of Ananda Vidyalaya, Kithsiri Liyana-gamage said that children who are over fifteen years of age like to experiment. They realize the good or bad effects later. It is the responsibility of the elders to make them understand the repercussions of drug use. He said that parents and teachers should be alert about the behaviour of children at all times.
