The Tamil Nadu Youth Congress protesting against the plans that were mooted by the Tamil Nadu Government to release the Rajiv Gandhi killers queried about the security of the country if they were to be released.

Former Congress MP Peter Alphonse addressing the party cadres said four of the seven convicts were not Indian citizens and were hardcore members of the LTTE. He queried as to where they would be kept if they were to be released? He also said if they were allowed to roam free in the State it would pose a threat to the country’s security.

The Hindu reported that members of the Tamil Nadu Youth Congress observed a fast in Chennai yesterday against the State Government’s decision to release all the seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. The fast was organized by General Secretary of the youth Congress Naesey Rajesh. The Tamil Nadu Youth Congress also wanted justice for the family members of those who were killed along with Rajiv Gandhi in Sriperumbudur.

The Hindu pointed out that former Congress MP Peter Alphonse also wanted to know why these seven persons should be given special treatment when around 4000 people were serving their life term in various prisons in Tamil Nadu.
