Dark memories on 02nd March

Add comments

The destruction unleashed in the motherland by the ruthless tiger terrorists with the intention of ruining the country is inestimable. If the war heroes did not initiate action with supreme sacrifices to annihilate terrorism under the prudent leadership of the Commander in Chief, the country would have transformed into a land of the dead.

These episodes clearly depict the ruthlessness and brutality of the crimes committed by this barbaric outfit.

The tiger terrorists who took away the lives of three war heroes in the Vavuniya area on 02nd March 1986 commenced their killing spree on 2nd March during the dark era with the intention of grabbing more lives. On 02nd March 1988, the terrorists who sneaked into the Morawewa village in Trincomalee unleashed a brutal attack targeting innocent civilians. As a result, the terrorists bumped off 15 innocent unarmed civilians.

The blood thirsty terrorists not only unleashed terror in the North. They were also looking for means of quenching their thirst for blood in the South. One such dark day dawned on 02nd March 1991. Ranjan Wijeratne was a key Minister of the United National Party which ruled the country during that period. It was a period in which dire actions were initiated against the brutal tiger terrorists by this Ranjan Wijeratne who was serving as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and State Defence. The cruel terrorists launched a suicide attack targeting the vehicle of this Minister who was travelling from his official residence to his home. It was on a day like today that Ranjan Wijeratne who was a real pain for the tiger terrorists was killed. Seven members of the forces who were providing security to the Minister and also 24 civilians were killed in this attack.

On the same day the terrorists slaughtered 19 innocent unarmed civilians in the Wewelketiya village in Medawachchiya with the intention of quenching their thirst for blood. On 02nd March 1996, the ruthless tiger terrorists after killing two war heroes at Chulipuram in Manipai, Jaffna also killed an innocent civilian. On 02nd March 2007, the terrorists took away the lives of two war heroes in an attack unleashed in the Kottukolam area. In the year 2008 also on a day like today the terrorists killed four war heroes in two assaults in the Muhamalai and Kokkuthuduwai areas. Again on 02nd March 2009, the terrorists took away the lives of 11 war heroes in the Urani, Pattikarai, Puthukudiyiruppu and Ambalawan-pokkanai areas displaying their brutality to the world.

Terrorism which was a scourge for the country was uprooted on 18th May 2009. By then the terrorists had taken away 102 lives. This included 65 civilians and 37 war heroes. The members of the Security Forces who advanced in the humanitarian operations brought permanent peace to the country following the bold and direct decisions taken by President Rajapaksa and the guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. They did so with dedication. The war heroes protected and safeguarded the lives of innocent civilians adhering 100 percent to the Geneva Conventions.

The United States and Britain are making human rights accusations against such a group of war heroes not because they cannot recognize the nature of protecting human rights but because of their deceitfulness.

The world media in the past few days revealed with evidence the flagrant human rights violations committed by these countries. But it is a surprise that either these countries or organizations which appear on behalf of the protection of fundamental rights are reticent on these human rights violations.

The people who love the country are not prepared to betray the freedom gained with dedications. They will even not hesitate to protect their motherland in the face of any force. They have proved this to the world on many occasions.
