Dark memories on 10th March

Add comments

No one can estimate the lives lost and the property damaged due to terrorism which plagued the country for 30 years.

All these happened due to a deadly terrorist outfit which was embedded with brutalism and considered by the world as indomitable.

The shedding of blood took place throughout the dark era due to the atrocities committed by these cruel terrorists

On 10th March 1991, the tiger terrorists in ambush mooted an assault at the war heroes at Thiriyaya in Trincomalee and took away the lives of 15 war heroes. Again on 10th March 1994, the ruthless terrorists exploded a powerful landmine in the Palaly area targeting a military vehicle. As a result four war heroes sacrificed their lives on behalf of the country.

On 10th March in the year 2000, the terrorists exploded a human bomb at the Ayurvedha Junction at Rajagiriya in Borella shocking the entire country. 15 civilians died in this incident while five war heroes were killed in gun fire opened by the terrorists from the environs.

Periya Pullumanai was the next target of the tiger terrorists on 10th March in the year 2007. Eight war heroes sacrificed their lives on behalf of the motherland in this assault. These brutal tiger terrorists unleashed an attack on the brave soldiers in the Puliyankulam area on 10th March 2008, taking away the valuable lives of nine valiant soldiers. In the year 2009 on March 10th a powerful bomb exploded by suicide tiger cadres bumped off 13 civilians in the Akuressa area. 42 persons including Mahinda Wijesekera who was a Minister suffered serious injuries.

In the year 2009, also on a day like today several attacks were unleashed by the tiger terrorists on the war heroes in the Puthumathalan, Kachchilamadu and Puthukudiyiruppu areas. Seven war heroes were killed in these assaults.

Terrorism which plagued the country in this manner was brought to an end from the Nanthikadal Lagoon. 2009 May 18th was that historic day. By then the terrorists had taken away a total of 88 lives. It included 29 innocent civilians. The other 59 were valiant soldiers.

The members of the Security Forces who advanced in the humanitarian operations mooted on the instructions of President Rajapaksa who took bold decisions undeterred in the face of pressure exerted from the international community, succeeded in pulverizing the terrorist outfit. Such a victory achieved by our troops was a severe blow to certain local as well as extraneous forces, as it obstructed their avenues achieving parochial aims. Our forces achieved this victory heeding the Geneva Conventions, international war regulations and also safeguarding fundamental rights to the optimum.

The members of the Security Forces succeeded in given a fitting lesson on the protection of human rights, following their liberation of over 300 thousand innocent Tamils from the clutches of the terrorists. It is very clear that countries such as the United States and Britain are making human rights allegations against Sri Lanka which had discharged such a noble task mainly because of their hypocrisy.

Whatever allegations are made by local as well as alien forces, the nation along with the people’s lead is prepared to face any situation. As such these so-called forces should clearly understand that whatever attempts were made by them, that none would be able to cause any hindrance to the State Leader or the war heroes.

It is the war heroes who had enthroned genuine freedom in the country in the year 2009 on 18th May by routing local as well as foreign forces which are loyal to the tiger outfit. Isn’t it the responsibility and obligation of the era to commemorate such war heroes? A fervent appeal is made to you to dispatch photographs of such war heroes to us to remind the country and the world about their bravery.
