Geneva - Resolution on SL adopted 23 - 12

American Resolution adopted by a majority of 11 votes against Sri Lanka



Here are the countries that supported us:



The Resolution brought forward by countries including America against Sri Lanka at the Human Rights Council a short while ago was adopted by a majority of 11 votes. 23 have voted in favour of while only 12 countries have voted against the Resolution. 12 countries abstained from voting. India refused to cast their vote. It was said that 47 countries in all were eligible to cast their vote.





This voting session was carried out on the Resolution presented to the International Human Rights Council by Western countries with America taking a prominent stand that an international inquiry be conducted into violations of Human Rights including several other incidents which had happened during the war in this country.



Countries who voted against Sri Lanka in favour of the Resolution:

Argentina, Austria, Benin, Botswana, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Estonia, Cote d'Ivore, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Montenegro, Peru, South Korea, Rumania, Sierre Leone, Macedonia, United Kingdom of Great Britain, America.



Countries who voted against the Resolution:

Algeria, China, Congo, Cuba, Kenya, the Maldives, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela, Vietnam.



Countries who abstained from voting:

Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Gabon, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Morocco, Namibia, the Philippines, South Africa.
