The hostel of the Hartley School in Point Pedro which was destroyed as a result of terrorist attack has been reconstructed at a cost of 50 million rupees. Its opening took place under the patronage of Minister Douglas Devananda.
The hostel was constructed under the programme of expanding the facilities at the Hartley School which is one of the leading Colleges in the Northern Province. The hostel which could provide accommodation to 150 children was built at a cost of 50 million rupees. At present the school has 1200 children. Ian K. Karan, a past pupil of the Hartley College provided the grants required for the construction of the hostel. Northern Governor G.A. Chandrasiri and Chief Minister V. Wigneswaran were among those present on the occasion.
