Four trains will operate up to Palai from Colombo Fort from tomorrow. Director of Planning of the Railways Department Vijaya Samarasinghe said that this will provide facilities for commuters to daily travel between North and the South.
Mr. Samarasinghe said that the rail track between Kilinochchi and Palai has been reconstructed by the Railways Department and IRCON with the support of an Indian Line of Credit. All arrangements have been finalized to declare open the Palai Railway Station tomorrow with the participation of Ministers Kumara Welgama and Douglas Devananda, Deputy Minister Rohana Dissanayake, India’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Y.K. Sinha and Parliamentarian Murugesu Chandrakumar. Accordingly, he said that the Railways Department will begin the operation of trains from Kilinochchi to Palai with effect from Friday.
