Yesterday's match where Malinga displayed his prowess .... clinching 5 wickets in 14 balls
Sri Lanka was able defeat last year's champions in the Asia Cup Championships opening match played yesterday (Feb 25) against Pakistan by beating them 12 runs. With this win,Sri Lanka rose one position higher in the ladder of grading in one-day matches.
Though Sri Lanka's total at the end of 50 overs was 298 for 6 wickets was not considered bad, amid some disputable decisions the Pakistanis were closing upon a win and it was everyone's bet that they would emerge winners. However, they were able to collect only 284 runs all out within 48 overs.
The Pakistani batsmen began to topple with Sri Lanka's exponent in fast bowling Lasith Malinga making all the difference by clinching 5 wickets in just 9.5 overs which caused the debacle.
The outstanding feature in this fiery spell of bowling was that he got these 5 scalps only in the last 14 balls that he delivered. He also became the hero of the match and if not for his bowling, Sri Lanka would not have recorded a victory.
